Another Fine February!

With March right around the corner, hopefully bringing with it an early spring, I am happy to share with you a few of the highlights from February at Blueberry School.

February saw our students compete in the Edmonton Journal Games, and under the direction of Mrs. Dawes our kids represented Blueberry School with passion and sportsmanship.  Also on an athletic note, the Blaze basketball teams continued to compete extremely well at all levels, winning many games and showing great skill development.  We are very proud of our coaches and students for the manner in which they continue to represent our school and community.

Also in February, Ms. MacLeod and Mrs. Newby accompanied our students to Quebec on their SEVEC exchange.  This trip again proved to be an amazing cultural opportunity for our students.

Recently, Mrs. Maycher and Mrs. MacKenzie accompanied approximately 12 girls from grade 9 to the Women In Technology (WIT) day at the University of Alberta.  This day provided these young ladies with an opportunity to learn about many fields that have been male dominated in the past, but that talented and knowledgeable young scholars such as ours really should be considering for their future.

February also provided an opportunity for our teaching staff to continue their learning at Teacher’s Convention as well as through their continued work on our AISI project which has our staff exploring how student self assessment and critical thinking can improve student engagement and achievement.  I am very excited with the learning that this project has provided for both our students and staff.

Not only did February provide learning for our students and staff, but the Blueberry School Council (BSC) provided another great learning opportunity for our parents with Alberta Health Service’s Leslie Webb sharing her insights on her presentation on” Simple Connections, Stronger Kids.”

We look forward to another exciting month in March.  As the snow begins to melt away stop by to see the excitement of spring and learning at Blueberry School!

Sincerely,

Mr. S. Patras

Principal, Blueberry School
