October is Upon Us!

I am sure you will hear this several times over the next few days, but it bears repeating.  I can’t believe September is already gone!

It seems like just a few days ago that we were welcoming our students and parents back with our annual Pancake Breakfast on the first day of school.  This was followed up by some beautiful weather for our Meet the Staff Barbeque where parents and students got to connect with our staff and see what the learning can look like this school year.

The start of the school year has also brought with it the beginning of another great season for our BLAZE athletic teams.  We are excited for the fantastic efforts that we’ve seen already from our coaches and players on all of these teams.  Our cross country running team has participated in a few races already with some excellent placings by many of our students and outstanding effort and sportsmanship by all of our runners.  In addition our volleyball teams have begun practicing and are preparing for another great season!  We are very proud of the work that these coaches and players have already put in and can’t wait to see where this athletic journey goes.  Not to be forgotten are our Blueberry Choiristers who are already sharing their singing talents through in class performances.  We are excited for the talents that they are going to share throughout this year!

September also saw the beginning of the DARE project for our grade 6 students, the City Slickers program for our kids in grades 4 and 5, and a trip to the Telus World of Science for the Body Worlds exhibit for students in grades 7-9 and our school wide Terry Fox Run which was again a great success!

While September was certainly a busy month in the Blueberry learning community, October will likely be just as much fun!  A few events that we are eagerly anticipating are our annual Monster Mash and our Parent Teacher Interviews.

If you have not yet had a chance to touch base with your child’s teacher, please feel free to call, email or attend the upcoming interviews.  At Blueberry School we recognize the critical role effective communication between home and school plays in our children’s success.  Please continue to watch for, and discuss with your child’s teacher their preferred way of communicating with you.  We are excited that in addition to phone calls, agendas and appointments, our teachers are ensuring that you are aware of your child’s progress through various forms of communication such as blogs, classroom websites, texting, and emails.

We are looking forward to another great month of learning and fun at Blueberry School in October.  Feel free come in to see the excitement for yourself!

Sincerely,

Mr. S. Patras
