With Christmas break fast approaching, there is much to celebrate and acknowledge in the Blueberry learning community.
The past few weeks have seen many exciting learning opportunities for our students, a few of which I would like to highlight here. Students in Mrs. Lillywhite’s grade 5 class did a fantastic job establishing the criteria for an effective infomercial and actually created their own Recess Guardian infomercials. If you haven’t seen one yet, you’re in for a great surprise.
If you have had the opportunity to be inside the school over the past month, you would have seen the “crime scene” in the division two pod. In exploring the Evidence and Investigation unit in the grade 6 Science curriculum, Mrs. Dawes and Ms. Garrison’s students conducted a thorough investigation consisting of interviews, height calculations, footprint analysis and many other investigative techniques to determine which staff member stole Ms. Garrison’s cookies. I never would have guessed that our student teacher, Mrs. Matheson was so sneaky!
We are also very proud to celebrate our most recent “published” authors who submitted various pieces of their writing to the Wordworks publication and were selected as guest authors. Congratulations to Seth Bellerose, Jace MacPherson, Kennedy Chaytors, Cheyenne Paul, Brooklyn Plante, Ben Luchkiw and Michael MacPherson! We are very proud of your efforts and talents.
As one would expect during December, we have also had the opportunity to enjoy the singing talents of our students in four amazing Christmas concerts. Our Kindergarten and Grade one students shared their skills last week with afternoon concerts and family crafts and tea! Students in grades 2 and 3 helped put us in the Christmas spirit on Wednesday and our grade 4-6 students finished things off with a great performance on Thursday! We are extremely fortunate to have such talented students working under the leadership of their teachers, support staff and the extremely talented Ms. Bauer!
While there is so much more I could share in this short month, it will have to wait for the new year. On that note, on behalf of the staff of Blueberry School, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season!
